Remote Learning

If for any reason, there is a full or partial school closure, school will provide children access to remote learning.

Information for Parents

What should my child expect from immediate remote education in the first day or two of pupils being sent home?

In the event of school closing or partially closing, there will be a timetable outlining the daily links needed to access immediate fully sequenced learning. This may also include live Teams lessons with your child’s class teacher. These will be available on your child’s class page

We teach the same curriculum remotely as we do in school wherever possible and appropriate. However, we may need to make some adaptations in some subjects. For example, Art and Design if specialised resources are required to deliver this effectively.

How long can I expect work set by the school to take my child each day?

We expect that remote education (including remote teaching and independent work) will take pupils broadly the following number of hours each day:

Key Stage 1 3 hours daily
Key Stage 2 4 hours daily

What is taught to my child at home?

History/Geography Learning matches unit plans or reinforces Geography learning (KS2) or the topic being covered (KS1)

The learning we have chosen mirrors the content that would otherwise have been delivered in school as part of our already-planned curriculum.

Where possible, lessons will mirror the format we use in school therefore allowing the children to immediately access familiar learning. We use Little Wandle for daily phonics and use the government recommended Oak National Online Classroom as the basis of our wider curriculum. Oak National provides sequenced lessons delivered by teachers with a pre-recorded video, offering direct teaching with modelling and explanations, quizzes and worksheets. How will my child access any online remote education you are providing?

Timetables and links will be available on your child’s class page, on ClassDojo.

If my child does not have digital or online access at home, how will you support them to access remote education?

We recognise that some pupils may not have suitable online access at home. We take the following approaches to support those pupils to access remote education:

If you do not have access to a device or internet and this prevents your child from accessing their remote education, call the school office immediately on 01925 632705 or email on office@meadowside.tcat.uk.com and we will support you.

How will my child be taught remotely?

We use a combination of the following approaches to teach pupils remotely:

– pre-recorded video/audio lessons by our teachers

– Little Wandle Phonics (EYFS/KS1)

– Oak National Academy lessons

– Individually prepared printed paper packs produced by teachers (where applicable)

– White Rose packs sent home (KS1/KS2)

– Resource pack sent home (EYFS)

– Mirodo – KS2 already use this for homework

What are your expectations for my child’s engagement and the support that we as parents and carers should provide at home?

The expectation is that if your child is not in school, they must be engaging in daily remote learning.

It is advised that you utilise the timetable produced, on your child’s class page, to establish a routine that works for you, your child and your family circumstances. If any support is required, please contact school.

How will you check whether my child is engaging with their work and how will I be informed if there are concerns?

When your child has completed their work, they will take a photograph of it and upload onto their ClassDojo Portfolio, an online platform we already use in school, for the teacher to check and to offer your child feedback. This is monitored daily, and children’s usage is monitored and recorded. If there are any concerns regarding engagement or understanding, your child’s class teacher will contact you to discuss.

Parents/carers also have the opportunity to contact teachers, with any concerns, by calling school.

How will you assess my child’s work and progress?

Following our usual policies and procedures, a majority of the work is marked using self-assessment, where your child will be given the answers at the end of the virtual lesson/task and they will mark and reflect on their own learning. As stated, these are the procedures we would usually use in school. Teachers will also offer written feedback , where appropriate, based on the work the children upload, and your child may be asked to correct (using a different colour pen) and to re-submit their corrected piece of work.

Your child’s work will be checked daily, so feedback can be given, if appropriate, before the next day’s lesson.

If there are any concerns regarding your child’s understanding, your child’s class teacher will contact you to discuss and offer further support for you and your child.

How will you work with me to help my child who needs additional support from adults at home to access remote education?

We recognise that some pupils, for example some pupils with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), may not be able to access remote education without support from adults at home. We acknowledge the difficulties this may place on families, and we will work with parents and carers to support those pupils in the following ways:

– By ensuring the remote education meets the needs of your child (e.g. linked to individual plans, targets) and is tailored to be accessed at home

– By offering an alternative format if appropriate- e.g. paper-based learning, interactive etc

– By communicating and working closely with families and working together to reach an appropriate arrangement for remote education for your child

– Take advice and guidance from external agencies, where appropriate, to support families
